Fiscal Year Coming to an End? Now Would be a Great Time to Complete the Strategic Alignment Scorecard (SAS)

The purpose of the annual Strategic Alignment, Planning, and Reporting (SAPR) process is to increase member value. To identify member value, PMI starts by looking at 11 cores services that are aligned to PMI’s strategic objectives.

2009 is the first year in which PMI communities need to report on these 11 core services by submitting the Strategic Alignment Scorecard (SAS). Upon submission, communities will receive information on tools and resources available to support providing value to its members.

A group of volunteers and staff will also utilize the SAS to promote best practices, as well as define shared services to support communities.

Please visit the Announcements section of the Community Leadership Online Community for direction on the SAPR process and SAS.

Please contact Community Development Planner Nichole Ritz or send an email to SAPRreporting@pmi.org for questions and submissions.

Region 4 Leadership Meeting Focus: Assisting Members in a Struggling Economy

Region 4 volunteer leaders shaped their recent region meeting agenda around what communities can do to support their memberships in today’s depressed economic climate.  The PMI Long Island Chapter, led by President Steve Potter, hosted the annual Region 4 Leadership Meeting in Port Jefferson, NY, May 1-3, 2009.

Suketu Nagrecha, PMP, Region 4 Component Mentor, facilitated the 2 days of sessions that featured the central theme in the following presentations: “University Partnerships and PMI – Collaborating in a Challenging & Uncertain Economy”; “How We Can Aid Displaced / Unemployed Chapter Members,” and “Westchester Project Managers Job Hunters Program”.

The attendees were intrigued by the concept of having the local PMI Long Island Chapter intertwined within a unique 4-way partnership with an educational institution (SUNY at Stony Brook), a recognized training organization (Total Systems Education), and the Department of Labor, whose mission is to provide a continuum of workforce training and to facilitate innovative workforce initiatives which emerge from our research and development centers.

For more information about the event or the region, please contact the Component Mentor Suketu Nagrecha, PMP.

U.S. Based Component Officers - Important Tax Filing Information

The annual tax filing deadline with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was Friday, 15 May 2009. Please review the information found on the Community Leadership Online Community under Shared Documents >Toolkit >Finance >Taxes (U.S. Based Components Only) to ensure components meet the IRS guidelines.

United States-based PMI component officers are reminded that copies of component's tax filings must be sent to PMI for inclusion in the Component System and can be sent to the attention of Component Relations Coordinator, Anne Jenemann.

A copy of that tax filing must be held on record with the component’s files at PMI Global Operations Center as soon as possible after the 15 May reporting deadline. This information is required for the Component’s annual charter renewal.

New Opportunity for Communities: Help Academic Institutions Develop Project Management Courses or Programs

PMI has launched a marketing campaign that targets deans and chairs of business, technology management and engineering schools and conveys the message of an enormous challenge and opportunity that academia will be facing in the next ten years.

The campaign speaks about the need to fill the gap between the supply and demand of qualified project professionals that will be dramatically increasing in the years to come. It will also discuss the opportunity this gap presents to academia and the responsibility that the academic institutions will find themselves facing as the amount invested in projects worldwide grows, current project managers reach retirement age and new ones are not yet trained.

The campaign includes advertising, public relations, search engine marketing, direct mail and events. All of these tactics drive the audience members to a campaign website that houses more information about the benefits of teaching project management at a college level and accommodates various PMI resources for institutions and faculty who teach or plan to teach project management.

On this site, PMI plans to continue listing the communities that are interested in collaborating with academic institutions on the development of project management courses or programs.

If the community you lead would like to be included in this listing, please take a few minutes to provide us with basic information about your intentions and experience, and we will make sure you will be listed on the new site. Don’t miss this opportunity to advance the profession and expand the community's reach.  Currently, we have eight communities that have provided their information and will be listed on the site. These communities include:

  • E-Business SIG
  • Pharmaceutical SIG
  • PMI Central Florida Chapter
  • PMI Israel Chapter
  • PMI Keystone Chapter
  • PMI Mass Bay Chapter
  • PMI Netherlands Chapter
  • PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter

Don’t miss this opportunity to advance the profession and expand the community’s reach.
